College Entrance & Freshman Index

Admission Standards to the University System of Georgia

New admission standards have been imposed for freshmen entering the University System of Georgia fall and beyond. To be admitted as a regular admission student, a graduating senior must meet TWO requirements.  The first is to earn a College Prep Diploma. The second requirement is to meet the Freshman Index (FI).

Freshman Index based on SAT scores:
    FI= Academic High School GPA x 500 + SAT Verbal Score + SAT Math Score

Freshman Index based on ACT score:
    FI= Academic High School GPA x 500 + (ACT composite x 42) + 88

NOTE:  The Academic GPA (on a 4.0 scale) is based only on academic courses (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Language).  If the SAT or ACT  has been taken more than once, the highest scores will be used. Parents and students are encouraged to obtain current information/requirements from the colleges they are considering and communicate with them concerning admission practices and policies.
